Thank you for visiting us at AMERICAN ANTIQUE WICKER.com. Welcome to a web tour of Corner House Antiques.
It would be our pleasure for you to step into our shop in-person one day. Sheffield, MA is the oldest town in
Berkshire County, founded in 1733.
Corner House Antiques is located in the historic district of town, on Rt. 7, the
main road for north-south travel in western Massachusetts.
The shop is housed in a large 2-story barn, a tour of which is an education in the history of American antique wicker.
The barn is overflowing with all sorts of items sharing woven elements in common. We hope that browsing our web site
will entice your sojourn to Sheffield.
FIRST FLOOR SHOWROOM
A variety of room setting arrangements fill the spacious 1st floor showroom. An extensive collection of American antique wicker is shown along with mid-to-late 1800's Empire and Federal furniture, and a wide array of antique bamboo pieces. More than a dozen turn-of-the-century panel slag glass lamps cast a warm, colorful glow from atop bamboo bookcases, wicker tabletops, cherry one-drawer stands and mahogany chests of drawers. The showroom is filled with vignettes befitting all interior rooms of the home, as well as the porch. Inviting seating arrangements display several multi-piece matching wicker sets. A suite of matching armchairs, rocking chairs and tables flank a large sofa in one area, while sun streams through skylights onto a round Bar Harbor extension table and 6 matching wicker dining chairs.
The slight breeze from paddles of high ceiling fans add to the allure of antique wicker Art Deco and Bar Harbor chaise lounges. One corner is often furnished with wicker appropriate for a library -- bookcases, reading armchairs with attached woven magazine pockets, desks, library tables, wicker portfolios, and the like. Elsewhere on the floor, more mixed and matched antique wicker abounds... a wicker game table and 4 chairs, a 5-drawer wicker chest with beveled mirror attached. Accessories are scattered throughout -- wicker trays, lamps, candlesticks, taborets, picture frames, etc.
The expansive second floor is a treasure trove of antique wicker. It is filled entirely with all manner of woven furniture -- multi-piece matching wicker sets, pairs, desks, planters, tables, antique wicker for lounging, dining, rocking and even swinging! Antique wicker chairs and rockers hang from the rafters and stacked tables create pyramids toward the skylights in the high lofty ceiling.
All shapes, styles, and colors of antique wicker can be found. Some pieces await on-premise restoration, and/or re-finishing, while others are available in "as found" condition. Structurally intact wicker having a distressed quality of finish--those aged and worn with character and history, are often appealing because of their untouched appearance.
While the collection at Corner House Antiques changes year-round, the large inventory always offers quality selections of American antique wicker.
We would look forward to personally showing you much more than this web sampling of our ever-changing antique wicker inventory.
You are invited to come to Corner House Antiques in Sheffield, MA and view our impressive collection of antique wicker in person. Cast your eyes on the variety of woven compositions, touch the textures and hear about the history of early American wicker. The essence of antique wicker lies in its hand-woven elements -- interlaced features, criss-crosses, plaiting and decorative wrappings -- all creating patterns with texture, dimension, and keen visual interest. We hope you can visit our country setting in the heart of the Berkshires, where we'll share our knowledge of antique wicker and offer an in-person experience for all the senses...

Visually examine the structure and framework, look at the underside to inspect the construction.
Come to our shop -- touch the fancy Victorian wicker curlicues, intricate weavings, and serpentine rolls -- run a hand along the Bar Harbor braiding and woven pineapple feet -- get a physical sense of the texture in Art Deco patterns, and let your hands follow the simple vertical tailored lines of Stick Wicker. Then take a seat and feel the comfort of a wicker rocking chair or luxurious antique wicker chaise lounge. The depth invites tactile contact. Some pieces even beckon to be handled as sculptural works of art.
Come -- hear about the history of American antique wicker and the evolution of styles. In person we'll gladly share our appreciation and knowledge of antique wicker. Tell us what you're looking for, what room is being furnished, or if you're searching for something specific. We'll speak to your wicker "needs".
From the showroom patio doors several flower gardens will even appeal to your sense of smell when your footsteps lead to even more wicker furniture spilled out onto the lawns. We can designate space in the showroom, though we also enjoy using the outdoors at Corner House Antiques. Groupings of antique wicker are often arranged outside to suit a customer's given floor plan. Many "rooms" have been designed in the fresh Berkshire air- with the lawn as a "floor", and "walls" measured along fragrant flower beds.
We invite you to come to Corner House Antiques - where you'll enhance your "taste" for American antique wicker.
